My latest fan fiction piece based on Kosuke Fujishima's "Oh My Goddess" franchise is now complete to what I call the "Basic Story" phase. The name of this piece is called, "The Test of a God" and is a direct sequel to my first AMG fanfic piece, "The Song of the Goddesses", which was posted, chapter by chapter on this blog last year. If you've read "Song", you know that at the end of story, Keiichi was made a God in reward for his service to Heaven while Belldandy, Urd and Skuld were living with him on Earth. The Test of a God expands on that theme by revealing how Keiichi is dealing with his newly given powers, as well as how his new status changes his relationship with Belldandy.
Now those teeming masses that read this blog are probably wondering what the hell I'm talking about right now with all this stuff about Goddesses and so on. For a crash course of all things Oh My Goddess, check out the Wikipedia entry about the franchise at this link:
Suffice it to say that a wikipedia article even as comprehensive as that one can't substitute for digesting all 260 chapters, both anime series, the novel, the movie and all the thousands of fan fiction pieces that have been written about the series. But at least Wikipedia can give the reader of these pieces enough of a background to at least understand some of the more inside baseball stuff.
As "Test of a God" is a direct sequel to "The Song of the Goddesses" readers will have to read "Song" before taking on "Test" if they want to have a clue about what's going on. There's a small amount of set-up material in the first couple chapters for those crazy enough to take "Test" on cold, but I wouldn't advise it.
"Test" is a chunky ol' piece of writing. "Song" weighed in at 15 chapters plus epilogue, 72 pages and a word count of over 32,000 words. "Test" is a portly 26 chapters, 93 pages and over 48,000 words. It took me over three months to write "Test" in sessions of varying lengths. And now the basic story is done. Over the next few weeks and months, the story will be tweaked and tuned to improve flow as needed and to eliminate a lot of redundancies. Truthfully, I think that "Test" is a lot further along than "Song" was when it was in its basic story phase. I don't anticipate having to do a lot of extra tweaking to get it where I want it, it's pretty much there now.
Spoiler Alert: The ending of "Test" is a very abrupt cliffhanger. It is that way by design. There will be a third and presumably final installment written, but as to when, I don't know. But work will start on the final piece before winter of 2010. Here are the links to the .pdf files for "Song" and "Test"

Please provide constructive feedback. Rip the story to shreds, but don't just say that it sucks.
